I used a 1979 Bronco Dana 44 axle for this truck that was originally going to be used for another project. This this axle is a very common swap as it requires minimal fabrication and no frame modifications.
- Re-used the existing TTB coils, coil buckets and shocks
- All new bushings throughout. All new brakes and I used 7 degree radius arm bushings for the 6 inch lift
- I re-used the existing solid axle track bar
- I replaced the Rough Country drop pitman arm with a standard F150 pitman arm so the track-bar and the steering drag link are the same length and cycle in the same plane - the truck has zero bump steer!
- I fabricated a 3/8" trackbar mount to bolt to the frame and engine cross-member
- A new adjustable steering drag link with 1 ton tie rod ends was used
When I bought the truck, buddy said it had 3.50 gears, so the SAS has 3.50 gears.
On the post-SAS test drive the truck was binding up really badly in 4x4.....I later discovered the truck was 3.08 geared !!
So I swapped the Ford 8.8" rear-end for a Ford 9" with 3.50 gears and lockrite :)
